1. I have just finished my book and am very pleased with the turnout. Mr. Bingley has come back from London and has told Jane that he hadn’t known that she was there as well. He apologized and said that he would have visited her if he had known, contrary to what Miss. Caroline Bingley said. He later proposed to Jane and she accepted. Lady Catherine DeBourg came to talk to Elizabeth because she heard that Mr. Darcy (her nephew) had proposed to Elizabeth and that she did not approve. They had a very heated conversation in which Lady Catherine was very rude. The next time Mr. Darcy spoke to Elizabeth, he told her that his feelings for her had not changed and Elizabeth ended up agreeing to marry him. Wickham and Lydia are also engaged so it looks as if Mrs. Bennett’s wishes are being granted.
2. I really liked reading this book but I thought it was difficult to understand and stay interested at times. I loved the story line and the characters but it was difficult to follow. I liked reading a book that was written such a long time ago and in such a different way of speaking English. I think that it was a good change and a good challenge.
3. A theme that I noticed in this book is fortune. I have noticed this because everything is about how much money you have and whom you are marrying and how much money they have. I noticed this theme when they are talking about the men they are interested in and also when people are talking to each other about the size of someone’s house or how much they make a year. All of the Bennett girls are trying to get married, preferably into wealth and they are always talking about the men’s fortune. Mrs. Bennett does the most talking about wealth out of all the girls in the family because she is engrossed in marrying off her girls to nice, handsome, wealthy men.
4. My favorite character is Jane Bennett. Jane is very calm and collected and never says anything bad about anyone. She only sees the good in people and never complains. She is kind to everyone and is a little bit shy. I admire these qualities because usually it is better to not say anything at all or to say something nice rather than be mean. Jane is a good sister and a good daughter too. I find that there is nothing bad I can say about her, which is impressive to find in a character.
5. My least favorite character is Mrs. Bennett. Mrs. Bennett is so loud and obnoxious. She is really annoying and I would hate to live in a house with her. She is always overeacting and causing drama. All she does is gossip and complain. I don’t understand how such a nice girl as Jane could come from the breeding of Mrs. Bennett. Sometimes I just want to mute Mrs. Bennett from the story.
6. The story had turned out as I had thought it would turn out because I saw the movie before. One thing that I forgot was how Lydia and Wickham got married, I remembered that they had run off together but had forgotten about their marriage. If I were reading this story for the first time without watching the movie, I probably would have thought that her family would have been more critical of Elizabeth’s decision to merry Mr. Darcy. In the book, they were hesitant at first and then were very keen on the idea, mostly because of Mr. Darcy’s fortune. I would have predicted that Jane would get married to Mr. Bingley and that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy would eventually marry as well.
