1. The ring has just saved Bilbo’s life from the goblins. He wouldn’t have been invisible without the ring but he got away. Without even realizing it he made it past the Misty Mountains. Bilbo then runs into Gandalf and the dwarves who were about to leave without him so he made it in the nick of time. Bilbo doesn’t tell them about the ring which is weird because it has mystical powers and it just saved his life. Gandalf says the group should keep moving when it is still sunny because the sun is the only reason they aren’t being attacked by the goblins. The Wargs then find the group and they notify the goblins and then they come and the group is trying to hide in the treetops from them.
2. This book is kind of interesting but I don’t really like it that much. This book is pretty boring and I am having trouble grasping on to the book because it’s so unrealistic and I feel weird reading words like “Warg”. Also I saw a little bit of the Lord of the Rings movie and I hated it, I don’t hate this book but it is defiantly on the lower scale of the books I have read. Overall I am surprised I made it this far in the book I was going to abandon it but it is getting decent right now so I am going to stick with it.
3. A theme I have noticed in the book is growing up. I say this because at the beginning of the book Bilbo is a very timid character and he is very comfortable with living a life away from everyone. When Gandalf first asks him if he wants to go on the quest with him and his dwarves Bilbo faints. But now Bilbo is growing up and he is prevailing in the face of danger. He is a more assertive person now and he isn’t the same little pushover he used to be. I have noticed this through the entire book and I think I am going to keep seeing it during the rest of the book.
4. My favorite character is Gandalf. He is really neat because he is very smart and his knowledge of magic is immense. He is also very unusual because he is very smart but he keeps all of his plans and thoughts to himself. He always seems to know more than he will ever say he does. Gandalf is also one of the only characters that has no interest in the dwarves’ gold. Whenever Gandalf is needed he will always seem to show up at the moment he is needed the most, I don’t know if he plans it but it always happens. These qualities make Gandalf a very interesting character.
5. My least favorite character is Bard. This is because he is kind of an arrogant character and he sometimes doesn’t show respect to others. Also he is the kind character who doesn’t like accepting help from others which to me is not a good quality to have it makes somebody seem immature. The only time Bard accepted help was when Bilbo told him the weak spot of the dragon guarding the treasure. He was reluctant to accept the help but he made gold off it and he is a greedy character.
