1. What is going on in your book right now?
This romantic love story has just taken a turn. John reupped in the Army, knowing it was the right thing to do. While he was stationed in Iraq and Germany, Savannah became closer to Tim. Unfortunately, John’s father passed away. John came back to the states for his funeral. Then he went to visit Savannah, he didn’t know why but said he was something in needed to do. The last chapter I read ended with the cliffhanger of John pulling out of Savannah’s drive and seeing her crying on the porch.
2. How do you feel about the book?
I absolutely love this book! I started it just about a week ago and only have two chapters left. The book has proven to me that Nicholas Sparks is an excellent author. Many of my friends have been reading and raving about his work and thought I would give it a try. I am very pleased with all aspects of this book, I cannot find flaw! J
3. What is a theme in the book you have noticed so far?
A theme I see in Dear John is romantic love. This book is broken into three parts. The first part, the longest by far, was the week Savannah and John spent together when they first met. They share a deep passion for one another even though they only met a few days ago. Both John and Savannah claim they are in love. When John has to go back to Germany, Savannah promises to wait for him and will write him wonderful letters. I think this is very sweet and romantic. Without this extra silver thread weaved into the book I think I would have lost interest. I believe this relationship will sneak its way into the ending.
4. Who is your favorite character?
My favorite character is Savannah. She is ambitious girl with incredible morals. She plans to start a ranch for autistic children. Savannah writes beautiful letters to John while he is stationed oversees. I think she is an extraordinary, confident woman that is an excellent role model. While reading this book, I was always very interested in seeing how Savannah would react to a situation.
5. Who is your least favorite character?
My least favorite characters are the people other than Tim and Savannah that are helping build the houses. It seems as though they are there for the wrong reasons. They drink and fool around on the beach. I feel as though they did this to land themselves in a nice house on the coast. Whereas, Savannah and Tim are focused on helping these families. Hopefully, this situation will bring some right into their views and choices.
6. What do you think will happen next?
I believe Savannah is going to reveal a struggle she is facing in her life. There have been hints of dietary problems and/or marriage issues. While John was at Savannah’s, he found a dozen Tupperware containers full of food. Also, Tim wasn’t at the house when he visited. The cliffhanger of Savannah crying on the porch is a major clue and pondering question for me. I cannot wait to do my independent reading tonight!
