1. So far into this book, it is about a family of three containing a mom, and two children. The dad died a long time ago. This book is about two kids named Free and Lise. Their mother gets into a car accident and it affects their whole life. One day, they were after school and waiting for their mom to pick them up. They kept on waiting and waiting and she wouldn't show up. They got worried about her, because she was never late, but their neighbor asked if they wanted a ride home, and they went home. The mother wasn't able to pick up Free and Lise, because she had gotten into a terrible car accident. She broke a couple of bones, and her face was all bruised. Free and Lise find this out when a police knocks on their front door and approaches to them about this information. While the mother was in the hospital, their neighbor would sleep at their house and feed them and make sure everything is alright. In the middle of the night, Free and Lise order a taxi to the hospital that there mother is in, and they go visit her. They sneak out of the house, without letting their guardian know. When that arrive at the hospital, they see their mom, but she is all bruised up, and isn't able to speak. She had just gotten out of surgery. When they return home, they are very sad, but they have to do this. When their mother got a little better from the surgery, they skipped a day of school and stayed at the hospital with their mother. When their mother comes home, she realizes that she has to stay in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Since she notices that Free and Lise are sad, she decides to go to their beach house on vacation, and spend time with the whole family, but Free and Lise don't think that she will be able to after that accident.
2. So far into the book, I am enjoying it. It is an easy to read book, but the plot is interesting to read, and it makes you want to keep on reading. I don't really know where this book is going to take me, but I am interested to find out. Also, I think that Free is a strange character, because he is 5 years old, and he doesn't talk at all. I wonder how he communicates to other people? Lastly, I think that this book is not like many I have read, and it is a good one.
3. So far in the book, the theme I have noticed is friendship. This theme occurs in this book, because when Free and Lise find out that their mom got into a car accident, Lise gets very sad, and she wants to start crying, but she doesn't want Free to get sad and start crying as well. The two kids are supporting each other without neither of their parents for a couple of weeks, and all they have are each other and their neighbor. This supports friendship, because Free and Lise act like they are friends, and friends support each other in times that they need it.
4. My favorite character is Lise. She is my favorite character, because she is the most brave character in the book. When she finds out that her mom is in the hospital, she gets very sad, and wants to start crying, but she also doesn't want her little brother to get sad, so she remains brave, and stays strong. Also, Lise knows that Free doesn't talk or eat, so she tries to take care of him when their mom is out, and she keeps him healthy and strong. Lise is my favorite character, also because she goes to visit her mom with her brother, and that makes her mom feel good, because her mom knows that they care about her, and that also makes the mom feel good.
5. My least character is Free and Lise's neighbor. She is my least favorite character, because even though she stays with the kids, and keeps them safe, Free and Lise mention her as mean, and strict. That is one reason why she is my least favorite character. Also, she sometimes doesn't let Free and Lise out of the house to see their mom, and they are both really sad, so they always beg their neighbor, but she always says no. Lastly, their neighbor is my least favorite character, because when she is taking care of Free and Lise in the house, she makes it seem like she doesn't want to be in that house taking care of them, and that makes Free and Lise sad, which is why their neighbor is my least favorite character, even though she does a lot.
6. Next in the book, I think that the mom is going to get out of the hospital, but she is going to stay in a wheelchair. Their neighbor won't have to take care of them anymore. The whole family will go to their beach house, but since Lise said that they have never been their, I predict that it is not as well done as their normal house. I think that Lise will get very excited when she hears this news, but when she actually goes to the beach house, I don't think that it will turn out the way she thought it would. Lastly, I think that the mom will get better, and she will come out of the wheelchair. That is what I think will happen next in the book.
