1. What is going on in your book right now?

Indigo has gone through a lot in this book. When the story opens, she is working as a waitress at Carrera’s. Shortly into the book she receives a large tip of 2.5 million dollars! Indigo, her family and boyfriend, Trevor, start spending the money on whatever they choose. Soon she feels that people close to her, like Trevor, are using her in order to get her money. This upsets her and she suddenly leaves to go on vacation with her friend, Melanie. While on vacation, Indigo feels alone, empty and longing to see Trevor and her family.

2. How do you feel so far about the book?

I absolutely loved this book. It was upbeat, quirky and had a factor of imagination. The protagonist, Indigo Skye, was a well-developed character that expressed her feelings to the reader in every situation. In addition, Caletti was very descriptive throughout the book, making it easy to envision the book as a movie. Overall, the book was very well done and I recommend it to anyone.

3. What is a theme in the book?

“Money can’t buy happiness” is a major theme in the novel. When Indigo first received the tip, she went crazy buying luxury items such as automatic soap dispensers. Once the reality begins to sink in, the people around her begin asking her for money. Then Indigo sees the money as a nuisance, instead of a pleasure. She hopes the money will turn into a pleasure on vacation but her problem follows her, when Melanie asks for money. Finally when she returns home, she realizes that she is happy working at Carrera’s, being with Trevor and living a normal life.

4. Who is your favorite character?

My favorite character is Bex, Indigo’s younger sister. In the beginning of the book, she is raising money for tsunami relief, which is a very odd thing for a kid to do, yet very kind. When Severin, Indigo’s twin brother purchases a television, I love the way Bex would watch anything, amused by the sight. This is very different from my life as I grew up with a television at home. Caletti describes her as a very adorable, innocent little girl, which I found to be a great touch in the book.

5. Who is your least favorite character?

My least favorite character is Melanie, Indigo’s friend. She begs Indigo to come with her on vacation, yet things seem different once they arrive. Melanie tells Indigo that they are going to rent their own car and ends up making her pay for it. Also, Melanie hangs out with all of her friends she knows from last year, leaving Indigo in the dust. In addition, Melanie changes from a nice friend to a shoplifter. Overall, Melanie’s actions in the book were not to my liking.

6. How do you feel about the ending?

I feel that this ending was suitable, yet predicable. At the end she creates a list of ways she plans to use her money. This leaves the reader thinking about how Indigo went about completing this plan and if it was successful. I would have enjoyed if Caletti continued the book, or made a sequel, discussing the execution of her plan.
