1. From the start John has not been looking for a serious relationship with anyone. Every time his squad went out to meet girls in their free time, he would pass and settle down with a nice read. When on leave in June, he travels home and while enjoying the sunset rescues a girl's purse from the treacherous waters of the ocean. He is invited to a party at their house, soon he discovers what it feels like to truly fall in love. However, when he goes back to war things get difficult, long distance relationships were always the hardest on any couple. For a few years they thought they had a chance of beating the odds, communicating through letters and phone calls, but soon after 9/11 and John's reenlistment, Savannah writes him one last letter informing him that she had found someone else. This book is an amazing and breathtaking story of a young man's everlasting love.
2. This book was one of the best reads of my life! I loved it. I didn't ever want to put it down, I've already recommended it to my mom and she's almost finished! It always had me wanting to read more and more, it even made me cry! I absolutely loved this book!
3. The theme in this book was probably love. There were so many different kinds demonstrated throughout the book that it can't really be pin-pointed to an exact. First, I saw this odd, unspoken of love between John and his father. Then there was the romantic, beautiful love shared and expressed between John and Savannah. Finally, there was the close friendship between Savannah and Tim that showed love in another kind of way. The main theme in this book was just overall love.
4. My favorite character was probably Savannah. I loved the way her mind worked, how unselfish and caring she was towards others. She was really down to earth and loved to be outside with her horses. Lack of humor also was never a problem with her, she would always throw in a joke here and there in conversations. Savannah seemed that she would be an awesome person to spend time with, she seemed like she changed people for the better just from her presence.
5. My least favorite character was probably Tim. Even though he had an amazingly kind soul, I still couldn't get over the fact that he stole Savannah from John. I realized that he was my least favorite character when I found myself hoping that he passed away from cancer when I learned that he was ill. I liked his personality but he ruined the love that the book was built on.
6. I felt that the ending was awful! Sure, it might've been just what the book needed to add the extra "umph" and twist to it, but it disappointed me. The fact that it wasn't one of those "happily ever after.." fairy tale loves just got to me. The main characters just shared such a pure romance that I was the one heartbroken at the end, well the characters were as well of course, but I felt as though I was crushed on a higher level. It wasn't the ending I was hoping for, but the book wouldn't have had the same impact if it was any different.
