Dear John

1. John met Savannah a few days ago. John's connection with Savannah is unexplainable. He says that every time he looks at her, something in his brains just clicks. Whenever they talk, John is not afraid to say anything to her and she is very easy to talk to. John is home from Germany where he was for the army for a couple weeks out of the summer, and he and his father have trouble communicating. Every time John tries to make small talk, his father says one word answers, so he finally just fives up after a while. The chapter I am on in the book, John is teaching Savannah how to surf, and he later finds out that she caught on really fast and she is getting really good. Each day, they are getting closer and closer. Tim, Savannah's friend since she was little, told John that Savannah likes him. John likes her a lot as well.
2. I really like this book a lot even though I am just in the beginning of it. Books that I usually love to read are hard to pick up in the beginning, meaning they are boring. But, this book picked up right away and I was suddenly fixed on the book, unable to put it down the first second I started reading. I feel like this book is going to go fast for me because whenever I like a book a lot, I read for hours at a time, making me finish the book more quickly than others.
3. A theme I have noticed in this book is new beginnings because since John had a "rebel" life, before he joined the army, he has to begin a new life so that he doesn't do drugs, smoke, drink, fight, or hit on girls anymore. By meeting Savannah, made him realize how horrible his life was before. Savannah is giving him a chance even though she knows about his old life. So by him having a new beginning, will regain trust in his father, and it will help John and Savannah have a healthy relationship.
4. My favorite character in the book is Savannah because she will never touch a fly. People in her camp drink, and just came to work for the poor just for the vacation. Savannah came because she really wants to impact poor peoples' lives. She is also very nice to John, and gives him chances even though he was a rebel in his life before war. She never says a mean thing to anyone, and she is just a really good person.
5. My least favorite character is probably John's father because he doesn't get how father-son relationships work. He doesn't know how to talk to John the right way and doesn't give John a chance. Whenever John talks to him, he just gives him one word answers. He cares more about his coins then his own son. I feel like I just want to tell him how to act towards his son and make John feel like he's worth something in the world.
6. I think that John and Savannah are going to fall in love. But, when John has to go back to Germany, I think they will try to stay in a relationship long distance by writing letters back and forth like the title of the book. I also have a feeling that something will go wrong, and they can't continue to write letters.
