1. Just now in my book Iorek killed Iofur in their battle/ fight. This makes Iorek the king of the bears now because he killed Iofur and Iofur was the king. Now all the prisoners in the fortress will be freed and Iorek can make sure that Mrs. Coulter doesn't take over the bears. Iroek had been exiled long before because, he killed another bear, but since he killed Iofur in a proper battle he gets to become the king. Now that the fight is over Lyra and Roger don't have to worry about Mrs. Coulter using the Bear's territory as her personal lab.
2. So far I am really liking this book, and as exciting as it is I feel like it is going to get a whole lot better! I like that everything is fully explained so I know what is going on. The explanations also help me create a visual picture about what all the characters and backgrounds look like etc... I love how the characters all have a strong personality and it is constantly demonstrated throughout the book.
3. I think a new theme that is really starting to show up is friendship. This theme is constantly being demonstrated, such as when Lyra's best friend Roger was kidnapped by the catchers. After this happened Lyra was determined to save him and get him back, that's why she really wants to go to the North. Iorek also shows how good a friend he is to Lyra by how he always is trying to protect her. Such as his fight against Iofur, which was to free Lyra from Iofur's captivity (only is Iorek won). This really shows how much Lyra meant to Iorek because, he was willing to put his life on the line just in an attempt to save her.
4. My favorite character is Lyra because, she really cares about all the children kidnapped by the Gobblers and she is determined to get them back. I like that Lyra is really smart, and she knows how to get out of sticky situations. Such as when Lyra tricked Iofur into thinking she was a daemon because she knew thats what he really wanted and he would do almost anything to get one . This allowed her to get Iorek a chance at living because, the bears were all just planning on killing Iorek when he first came. This shows how Lyra is able to think of good solutions to her problems in the nick of time. I think it's really cool that Lyra is able to read the alethiometer so easily, I would love to have a power like that!
5. My least favorite character is Mrs. Coulter. She is very deceiving and just like Iofur, she only cares about herself. I hate how Mrs. Coulter tries to pretend she is kind and sweet to Lyra just so she can get to Lyra's alethiometer- which she wants to use to help herself. I feel like Mrs. Coulter's Daemon is also extremely cruel just like she is. I don't understand why anyone would ever let Mrs. Coulter get away with what she is doing.
6. Next, I think Iorek will get all the bears to help Lyra and the Gyptians get Lyra's father back. I also think that while trying to do this Lyrs will loose the compass- or it will get stolen, and it will find its way into Mrs. Coulters hands. I think Lyra will then get it back and use that to find her father. I don't think Lyra will be able to fully stop Mrs. Coulter though (keeping in mind that there are two more books). I also have a feelling that at the end one of my favorite characters will die or get seriosly injured by one of Mrs. Coulter's warriors.
