Murder Mystery
JUST RIGHT
pg. 178
1. The main character is a fourteen-year-old girl named Susie Salmon. One day when she was following-while going home at the same time-a girl she thought was very mysterious, she walked though the corn field. She saw Mr. Harvey, a neighbor that all the neighborhood kids thought was really weird. He started talking to her and lead her to an under ground "club house" he built for the "neighborhood kids". When they were underground, he locked the door without her knowing. He then started talking to her regularly but then started creeping her out. She was hesitant on going just getting up because she didn't know what this man would do to her. When he wouldn't let her leave, she tried to charge for the door. Instead he grabbed her stripped off her clothes, and raped her. He then brought her body to his house where he dismembered her limbs. He went back to the corn field and made all of the evidence of her murder disappear. For many weeks the police looked for traces of Susie, with her father's help. The whole time, Susie was watching in her heaven. She wanted to help her family so badly, and she missed them greatly, but she can't make contact with them. Susie's father started to become interested in Mr. Harvey. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew that it was Mr. Harvey that killed her little girl. Lindsey, Susie's younger sister, started going out with her first love, Samuel. She loved Samuel because he made her feel good, no matter how horrible she felt about Susie's death. When Susie's father made a promise to Len, the detective who was working on Susie's murder case, not to interfere with Mr. Harvey again because he was becoming "crazy" and "obsessed" with him being her murder, Susie's father had to figure out how he would get evidence against Mr. Harvey. He went into the corn field one night because he knew Mr. Harvey was in there. He could hear a girl crying so he thought it was Susie. Then Clarissa, Susie's best friend, started screaming and crying because she was scared that she was going to get murdered, too. Brian, Clarissa's boyfriend, took a bat and started beating up Mr. Salmon. He then was rushed to the emergency room. What people didn't know, and what Susie did know, was that Mr. Harvey was in the corn field that night, but no one saw him except for Susie up in heaven.
2. I love this book! It is so fascinating and makes me want to keep reading. I like how it is different, because usual mystery's, you don't know who murdered the person. This book, you do, so it makes it a different type of read. I can never put this book down!
3. A main theme I have noticed in this book is bravery because when Lindsey enters Mr. Harvey's house in search for clues of Susie, she has to be brave to help her father. The whole family has to be brave when Susie died because they have to learn to live through it and it takes a whole lot of bravery. Throughout the book, scary things happen which makes people brave.
4. My favorite character in the book is Lindsey because she is really interested and curious on being a girl even though she is kind of a tom-boy. She doesn't care what people think of her, even though she cares about her looks. She is a wicked good sister to Buckley, her younger brother that is in kindergarten, and a good daughter to her father and mother through the roughest of times. She is really strong and wicked brave and nice all around.
5. My least favorite character in this book is Mrs. Salmon because she doesn't take Susie's death easily. She cheats on her husband while he is in the hospital in surgery after he was beat up by Brian. Up in heaven, Susie was really hurt by that, and by Susie's mother doing that, she isn't helping anyone. She never listens to her own mother, or her husband when she is spoken about ideas, and she always has to think for herself. She is very ignorant.
6. I predict that when Lindsey is in Mr. Harvey's house, she finds a clue leading up to Susie's death that makes it reveal that Mr. Harvey was the killer. I also predict that Mr. Harvey is going after Lindsey next, ready to kill her too. So when she is in Mr. Harvey's house she finds clues about how Mr. Harvey secretly stalks her too. But everything turns out happy in the end.
