1. Right now Sir Michael and Fisk are trying to figure out who could have planted the hide of a magica boar in their bags, causing them to be attacked. In this world, some things are born magica, giving them greater abilities than normal, and any who dare to slay something magica must prepare to give a sacrifice or be doomed. For example, when Fisk was trying to pick some magica herbs, he had to make a sacrifice of making some mulch and placing it around the area where the herb was picked. Michael and Fisk decided that it happened when they were at an inn, but are continuing on regardless.
2. I like this book, but not greatly. While the character depth is good (the author adds on new and intriguing personalities, and draws your attention to them) the plot isn't. It is interesting, but it lacks any recognizable flow. For example, when Fisk is looking for information in the inn, it suddenly jumps to him asking a stableboy for help, but the boy has information for him anyway.
3. The theme of giving revolves heavily around this tale. If you ever slay something magica, you must give a sacrifice. At a higher level, Sir Michael, the main character, wants to become a knight-errant, a chivalrous knight who wanders the countryside performing good deeds. Even Fisk, the rogue turned squire, is nice and giving once in a while. For example, when Michael was wounded in a fight, Fisk goes through the trouble of finding herbs and making a poultice for him.
4. My favorite character is Fisk. Once he was a rather unique rogue, con artist pickpocket, and forger extraordinaire, but when he was caught, he faced life imprisonment or serving Sir Michael the last Knight errant as his squire. He chose the latter, and continues to ponder whether or not that was the right decision.
5. My least favorite character would be Hackle. As well as being the insidious villain who tricks Sir Michael and Fisk into rescuing a "damsel in distress" who's actually a murderess locked in a tower for poisoning her husband, he also has that sort of abrasive personality that makes you instinctively mistrust them. The author did an excellent job with Hackle.
6. I think that Sir Michael and Fisk will continue on trying to find the evil damsel, Lady Ceciele, and will likely learn more about the obstacles in their way.I also think that they might find that there's more to this crime than what they already know...
