1. Right now, the Carter and Sadie are at a mansion in Greater New York with their Uncle, Amos. Both Carter in Sadie have their own room's in the mansion that is stocked with all there favorite food and products. They soon realize that the doors out of their rooms are locked, and they are prisoners in their rooms until Amos lets them out in the morning. So they decided they might as well get some sleep. Carter is having a weird dream. Except it isn't a dream, it is more realistic then his normal dreams. In the dream Carter is half bird half human and is watching to weird creatures and and the fire man that he met in London the day his father disappeared.
2. So far I am really liking the book. Like all Rick Riordan books, I'm only 60 pages in and already some really intense things have happened. The book never gets boring and I don't want to put it down. Also I like the characters Carter and Sadie. They are both character's with distinct and unique personalities and it is interesting that to hear the book from both of their points of view. Also, I like how the book is actually the characters talking into a recorder and then it was put into text.
3. I think the theme of this book is not losing hope. Carter and Sadie just saw their father sink through the floor in a coffin and instead of morning and deciding he is gone forever, they are trying to keep themselves together and prepare to be able to save him and protect themselves. Also, Carter has to learn not to give up hope not only for himself, but to help his younger sister get through losing her father that she barely got to know. Even though Carter isn't close to his sister, in fact, he only sees her twice a year, and she is more outgoing then him, he has too take the role of being the older brother and help her dell with all the weird things that are happening to them.
4. My favorite character is Sadie. I think it is cool that she lived in England and so has an english accent. Also, she is the type of person who isn't scared about getting what she wants. When she sees her father talking to a mysterious man, she goes over to him and tries to find out what is going on. I also think it is cool that she is able to read hieroglyphics, though never studied them. It is a really cool talent and I am interested in why she is able to read them.
5. My least favorite character is the the fiery man. He is a guy who is outlined in fire and caused Carter and Sadie's father to get sucked into the ground in a coffin. He is extremely mean. For example, one one of his workers questioned him, he burned him to smithereens. Also, he is after Sadie and Carter, and they don't know why. They never did anything to him, in fact they barely even know who he is.
6. I think that Amos is going to tell Sadie and Carter that their dad is actually a Egyptian god, and the fiery man is out to kill them because he thinks that they will get in his way from rising to power. I think that they are also going to learn more about their special powers and all the magic they have been introduced too.
