Zoe Hutcher, Lock and Key, Sarah Dessen, Realistic Fiction, Challenge, 366

1. On Valentine's Day, Ruby and Nate got into an argument. They were arguing because Ruby was fairly sure that Nate's dad was abusive but Nate wouldn't let Ruby help him. That made Ruby upset because she let him help her when she was having a hard time dealing with her mom abandoning her and the transitions from Jackson, her old school, to her new school, Perkins Day.
2. I think this book is awesome at showing how a family can help each other through hard times. For example, even though the two sisters haven't seen each other in ten years, they still help each other out. Also, it is hard to predict what is going to happen next. For example, I thought that Ruby was going to run away when she went back to her old house. Instead, she got sick in the woods and Nate had to come get her. The author wrote a lot of foreshadowing in the book. It skims over a topic briefly and then later in the book the author revisits that topic.
3.The theme in the book is trust because Ruby needs to learn to rely on other people. Ruby did not trust people before because she never had anyone to rely on. Now that she is living with her sister and brother in law, she is making new friends and needs to learn to trust them.
4. My favorite character is Jamie because through all that they have been through he has manged to stay positive. He get angry sometimes but he always has a good reason to. He also tries to make sure that everyone is happy. Ruby and her sister did not do the traditional things a family did when they were kids so Jamie always tries t make it up to them.
5. My least favorite character is Rubys best friend,Peyton, she new that Ruby did not have an easy life and she only made it harder by cheating on Ruby's boyfriend.
6. I think that Ruby is going to do something about Nate's dad even though Nate doesn't want help. Then Nate will get made but I think he will get over it and see that life is better now.
