The Hunger Games

1. The Hunger Games have begun. Katniss (the protagonist) volunteered herself in for her little sister Prim. Katniss is now forced to compete in the Hunger Games and her chances of winning are very low compared to other teams. Katniss and her partner, Peeta, are practicing different skills together to use in the Hunger Games. However many of the other partners in the other teams decided to train and practice alone. They have done this because in the end of the Hunger Games, the two remaining contestants of the same team have to battle to the death. Now that the Games have begun, Katniss is put to the ultimate test.

2. The book is great! However, the beginning was extremely slow. It grabbed onto you and dragged you down until you wanted to stop reading the book. Nevertheless when you reach page 147, this is the page with the line “… let the 74th Hunger Games begin.”. Now the book is very intense and doesn’t stop at anytime.

3. A theme I see in this book is trust. I see this in the book because the extreme power of the Capitol infiltrates the lives of all people. Thus you can’t tell friend from foe. However within families, trust is all that they have which makes the family bonds of the people in this book a lot stronger than normal. Also in the Hunger Games your partner is only you friend until the end of the Games. At the end the two remaining partners must fight to the death. Therefore, you can’t trust your partner to a very high level as you will always want an advantage over them.

4. Although he is only present in the book during the beginning, Gale is my favorite character. He is because he is funny and witty and because he has many tricks up his sleeves. Still he has to realize that he can’t change the ways of the Hunger Games and must accept the fact that if he is chosen he is chosen. However he was not chosen, Katniss was chosen.

5. My least favorite character is Haymitch. He is the supervisor of Katniss’ team and he doesn’t take his job seriously. He is drunk all the time and doesn’t put on a good image for the team. If he keeps on acting like this no one will want to sponsor Katniss’ team and they won’t get good supplies for the Games. He needs to pull himself together for if not, Katniss’ life will be greatly jeopardized.

6. I think that Haymitch is going to get his act together because he can see that his way of doing things is not a very good way. I also think that either Peeta or Katniss will get seriously hurt during the Games and will consider the fact of helping their partner or not, as he less amount of contesters the greater the chance of winning and living.
