1. Right now Hercule Poirot is staying at a large, fancy house in Devonshire. A famous murder mystery writer has called him up because she had the feeling that something was wrong. She was organizing a murder mystery party and she felt as though a real murder was going to be committed instead of a fake one. Hercule Poirot is talking to everyone, trying to analyze their characters and figure out if one of them is acting suspiciously.
2. So far I like the book. However, I am at the very beginning, the murder that will be investigated has not even occurred yet. But I like Agatha Christie's books in general and I especially like Hercule Poirot. I also think that all of the characters are very believable and I like the pace of the book.
3. The theme that I have noticed so far is probably sticking to your gut feeling. Since it is a murder mystery book and the murder has not been committed yet it is hard to think of a theme. But, the writer calls up Hercule Poirot because she has a feeling that something is not right- a gut feeling. I know that a murder will happen so it is a good thing that she called him up when she did- it will make it much easier for him to solve the crime. That shows why the theme is to stick to your gut feeling or your instincts.
4. My favorite character is Hercule Poirot. He is my favorite because it is funny to read about his old fashioned opinions and I like his character in general. He is a genius and he knows it. You wouldn't exactly call him modest, he loves to brag and is very disappointed when people don't know who he is. He also can really tell what kind of person someone is just by talking with them for five minutes.
5. My least favorite character is probably Mrs. Hattie Stubbs. She is married to a man 20 years older than her. She is very childish and selfish. All she cares about are her jewels and that she has the fanciest clothes of all of the women at the casinos. Also, she acts as if she was 10. She never thinks twice about wasting her husband's money on gambling and she does not understand many things (things about how to act around other people).
6. I think that the person who is supposed to be pretending to be murdered will actually be murdered. Then Hercule Poirot will find out who it was- someone that I did not expect. I think that because on the first page of the book there is a little sneak peek that says that the writer was showing Poirot the 'corpse' and then he realizes that she is actually dead! Also, I have never guessed the murderer in any of Agatha Christie's books- and I have read a lot of them.
